Holding Space for Each Other

Within the PreBİRTH  community we hold space for one another

Holding space is a term that may be new to some people.  You might wonder: “How do I hold space exactly?”

So, what does it mean?

Holding space is about being with others without judgement. It doesn’t require you to be anyone other than who you are, although a lot of times we need to let go of our own prejudices or preconceived ideas about ourselves and others to really hold space for another.

“The first duty of love is to listen.”
Paul Tillich
“Listening is an attitude of the heart, a genuine desire to be with another which both attracts and heals.”
L. J. Isham

The keys to holding space

· Let go of judgement

· Open your heart

· Allow another to have whatever experience they’re having

· Give your complete undivided attention to the situation/other person without feeling the need to add your opinion, no matter how valid you feel it may be

When holding space, you’re not trying to influence the situation. You’re not trying to fix it, win at it, or affect any kind of outcome. You are simply being with it fully so that the other can have an entirely safe space to share.

We ask that when a member of our community shares in the forums, you do not give advice or share your opinion, but rather simply support and hold one another. Using a ❤️ heart emoticon is a simple way of saying, “I hear you, I see you, I hold you.”

We don’t have any hard rules within this community, but we do ask everyone to stay mindful of holding space.

Before responding to anyone, check in with yourself and ask: “Is this kind? Is this necessary?” ·  If you’re triggered by someone else’s words, check in with why you’re feeling that way, then reflect and centre yourself 🙏🏼

It is such a GIFT for us to hold space for one another.

As facilitators of this group space, we want everyone to feel truly held in their vulnerability so we will delete comments where we feel that an individuals safety is compromised  (p.s we have never had to do this!  we love our community!)
